Help pick a sweet refugium critter....

Im going to start a new tank with a custom stand. I really would like to be able to see my refugium. I was thinking of framing the refugium like a in wall setup.

So along with some cool macro what kind of critter would you throw in there ?

I keep a Hawaiian Reef Lobster in one of my sumps. He is the coolest, although I would add, his punchers have caught me a couple of times when I did not expect it.

And while your reading this whats the best light ? t-5 or Led ?

Led saves a lot on power bill less money spent on replacement bulbs and more on new coral lol

It should as long as your not growing any coral or anything that needs light to thrive in there but growing some macro algae and putting some critters in ther like shrimp and lobster you should be fine

By far a mantis if go with a peacock or smasher in general they are awesome to keep! I have a tank dedicated to mine and he's always out moving things around and making his home and the are beautiful!!

Yup agreed very Beautiful critters but i don't think you should ever put in display because mine ate some of my zoanthids and some button polyps and I gave it straight back to my LFS

We used to have a mantis in its own 5 gall display. He was really cool! We had a large Green emerald crab that was causing problems in my 75. I caught him and gave it to my mantis....... Lets just say my mantis was more than happy to help me. ;-)

Mantis, angler (depending on size), small fish that are too aggressive for your tank mates. I myself am doing a display sump so that I can sneak a mantis in there when the girlfriend isn't looking.

The problem with seahorses is they really need their own dedicated system. Most live very short lives at the normal tank temps and require cooler temps. The other issue is they are very susceptible to stings from hydroids.

+1 ^ he said Ponys need cooler temps and dedicated care. i think most people have thought at one time that it would be a cool thing to have them in the fuge. And that it self would be a nono If you want pods and lots of them! Kinda like a manderin in there..... It would be fat but thats it !
