I have a 75 I’m setting up and am having trouble picking a sump as I have never used the brands I’m looking at. I’m looking at the Bashsea SMS-3015, the Trigger Ruby 30 and Icecap 30. I’m open to other suggestions but these are the 3 I’m torn between. If anyone has experience with these I would love to hear before I order.

I am not using any of those sumps, but I have looked into them. The Trigger ones look nice, and if you check out their blemished section you can get a nice discount sometimes. Right now they have a ruby 30S for $230 shipped. Ultimately I think that I am going to get some baffles off of ebay and make my own. This way I can lay it out how ever I think is best.

Bashea is the cream of the crop.

They look amazing, I was just reading their actual dimensions weren’t what was advertised. It’s my number one pick though as is the best looking one. I just want to make sure it’s going to be ok dimension wise. The Trigger Ruby or Triton would be next though.

Yeah I’ve been watching their website and should have pulled the trigger on their Triton sump but now it’s gone lol.

DIY is my recommendation
I considered it but would rather just buy for aesthetics and ease because I’ve never done it before.

I had the Ruby 30 on my 185gl & it worked fine but I ended up going to the Sapphire 36 for more Space.

Went with Trigger Triton v2 34 after using a DIY for a long time. Love how clean it is and all the bells and whistles. Choice over others were based on price and need to fit clarisea and a regal skimmer.

they go o sale pretty often.

38Lx16W is what I have to work with under the tank. I plan on doing a auto top off and auto dosing so I know that will cut into sump size. I did think about the Triton 26 as it says for 75 gallon tanks but I question that being an optimistic number?

The sapphire/emerald I do actually like better for the filter sock area. That’s a awesome tank too by the way!

Thank you
The thing I like is they give you a plate for the 2 socks one that allows you to use a foam pad if you want to go that way & the Refugium level is adjustable, the ruby I had didn't have this.

Check out Fiji sumps as well. So far I have a Geo, Bashsea and an Eshoop all have their pros and con. I choose the Fiji sump for a 240 build because I want the option for a try instead of socks.

That’s one thing I like about those sumps. I’m not sure how I feel about the tube running into the sock, I like how those have the dump area that flows into the socks.

I’ll look into those tonight. That’s one I haven’t heard of before!

If you can afford it, Bashea !!

Diy is my recommendation. A 75g and a 40 breeder during petcos sale is ALOT cheaper than any pre-built sump you can buy of similar size. Use the 40 for the baffles. The width is perfect so you only need to cut the 2 long panels and then height down on all of them to your desired water level.

yep the I forgot about the pipes in the socks on the ruby, been awhile since I changed. I liked the ones trigger made for Marine Depot but to much $$$$

i have a bashsea 3015 coming tomorrow, ill let you know what i think, I originally was going to go with a 26" and had chosen the trigger triton but they do not offer a 30" model. After reading tons of posts i bought the bashsea smart series, seems to fit my needs best and as a bonus they have a model that matches my plumbing choice (blue pipes and sch80 fittings).

If you are torn between some features of one manufacturer but not another, etc., you could also look into Lifereef Sumps as you could customize it to your liking. They are very well built and very comparible to what you are looking at cost wise.

I would recommend IceCap sump. Thy are very well made, and I was able to get 36XL on clearance for $275. Coralvue on eBay will have some on clearance from time to time, so if you are not in a hurry, maybe keep an eye on there. Reason one that i got was on clearance is because manufacturer used some yellow type of glue/silicone between tank and 2 baffles, so they couldnt sell it as normal sump due to discoloration.
