Hey guys so my 10 gallon mixed reef is about 6 month old. Live stock includes cuc, 2 little clowns, and a little bit of everything when it comes to coral softies sps and some euphillia. Everything is happy coral included. Anyway added rock and moved some stuff on Sunday and I found .50 ammonia the past 2 days. Did water change it's still there. It's a api saltwater master kit. Is it a faulty kit sinse my corals are fine or what should I do?! Thanks for any help I have all my levels if needed but I didn't think they where necessary to post.

This isn't terribly uncommon when adding dry rock to an established tank, especially if it was a decent amount of rock.
You should be fine - if fish start showing any signs of stress seachem prime is a safe way to neutralize ammonia for 48 hours.

API test kits in general, but especially the Ammonia one, and especially at the lower end of the scale, are unreliable. If it said you had 2ppm+, I would look into it further, but at such a low amount, and considering the type of test used, I would consider it a false positive.

Hi I'm not an expert but have been running a 20 gallon mixed reef for almost 3 years. If it was me I'd keep doing water changes and get one of those cheap ammonia badges and see what's going on throughout the day. It's seems a little odd what's happening but that would be my approach. Good luck and I respect your attention to your tank. David

You likely have false readings. Whenever unsure, do a water change. I would recommend taking a water sample to a trusted LFS that does not use API kit and see what readings they come up with and to compare with yours

Thanks everybody I feel a little better. It was a nice amount of dry rock I added for sure.i live in a small town but will make it to a fish store by this weekend. I added prime to be safe and we will see about another water change tomorrow. I thought any amount of ammonia was basically a death sentence so thanks again for all the help.
