I have 2 clownfishs in my 29g with the corals had a cleaner shrimp which died during changing body, sand shifting goby that jumped out and today i bought a manderin and placed it in the tank so the male clown keeps bullying the manderin chasing him and throwing sand on top of him , pushing him away from their "house" under a pvc pipe in the sand... so i read that a guy takes out his clowns when he buys new clowns that way the old ones dont bully the new one and he said it was like pressing a re-do button so going on from this i wanted to know what u guys think of this how long should i keep them out of the tank (for now i put them both in the sump ) only male was bullying but i transfered both to sump in hopes that also when i add them back they will host my new anemone or my torch or something other than my sand... sorry that was off topic anyways i left the amnderin in main tank by himself and the clowns in sump if that doesnt do the trick im just gonna have to return the manderin because i like my clowns also wanted a manderin but dont want it to die because of me and not getting rid of my clowns the bad part about returning the manderin is that the store doesnt open until tuesday... any help would be appreciated.

A Mandarin is a very timid fish and won't tolerate much bullying. 2 Clowns in a 29 gallon is your stocking limit I'd say. The whole tank is their territory. You do know that male Clowns are smaller than the females? It's usually the female who is the dominant one.

I agree with Mike J. I really don't think the clowns are going to change their attitudes at all. May want to consider returning the Mandarin. IMO a 29 is kinda small for a Dragonet anyways :)

You could try rearranging the rocks. If your tank is not mature and you don't have a copepod population the mandarin won't survive.

Yeah guess it was more of a fantasy , i know lol its weird the male is the one that is always defending their territory attacks me when i put my hand in and the female sometimes defends me pushing the male away. The female is bigger and makes the male do the dance almost all the time

Yeah i bought copepods months before to put in sump and dt so they would reproduce. Sad my wife was right she kept telling me to just leave the 2 clownfish because they killed 2 chromis and me thinking that was only because they were in the same family and they wouldnt bother anything else but guess i was wrong on tuesday after work ill take it back
