Help please is this the start of coralline algae

If it's the pinkish purple spot, then yes. Coraline is a good indicator that you can handle stony corals assuming all else is good

Thanks and yes, all corals are doing great I’ve had a Duncan for about 3 months and I’ve got about 7 new heads all around it which are a fair size themselves now. Any idea what type of algae the brown stuff is ? The white spots are sand grains thanks to my blue cheek goby

Hmm tough to say. It could be a film algae of sort, do you have any Mexican turbo snails? Try placing one on the rock to see if he cleans it. If not, might be a uglier coraline color..

No I haven’t but they are one of what I am waiting for my lfs to get in stock, and that’s a good point about the uglier colour coralline because it looks as if the coralline is either eating into and taking over the brown algae or the brown is steadily becoming purple

Tank size? Could reccomend some grazing fish for the hairy and diatom stuff based on that info...

Looks like algae to me. I would recommend foxface + yellow tang, snails + sea urchin to pick that off. Before I do a water change I would brush that algae off the rock every time. I also got it under control with a little bit of Dr. Tims.

Definitely looks like some type of brown turf/film algae in the starting stages, I had similar in my 45.

Just let it be for now unless it gets out of control, I had nice coralline grow over it.

How olds the tank and do you have any nuisance algae elsewhere?

Thanks, It eats like a pig it is a great looking fish though !

It’s around 5 months old, had diatoms for around a month and half and they naturally burnt out, I wouldn’t say anything I have now isn’t a nuisance I have 2 hermits a emerald crab and a few snails that all keep on top of that he majority of it I have a picture with both types of algae I have spots of in the same area

this is the highest point of rock in the tank too so it has plenty of flow

I def see small parts of coralline. (Or what I think looks like corraline) The pinky purply color is corraline the other stuff is possibly coralline there are brown and red corallines, but I think it's more likely diatoms
