I need to setup a QT tank ASAP. Can I just buy a 10 gallon kit at Walmart? I need to cycle it fast. I have sick fish. Please help?

Yes you can use a kit. I would try and use water from your display and also add bottled nitrifying bacteria.

If i use water from my tank will it not cause problems in my QT tank since I'm putting bad water in their?

I use the same 10 gal kit from Walmart. I use new saltwater when I have fish in QT. I have a filter sponge that I can place in my refugium for a few weeks to seed it. When I start the QT I just use the sponge to seed the tank.

My fish keep getting sick. Im assuming there's a parasite or something in the water. If I transfer some of that water to my QT tank, will it no contaminate my QT tank?

I just got a 10 gallon kit from Walmart today. I'm using the stock pump with filter, stock cheap LEDs, a marineland heater from my display tank, and 10 gallons of premixed RO water. The water is now up to 78 degrees. I did not use Live rock or sand. Its just bare bottom. What do I do next. When can I start putting fish and or Frags.

If your fish is sick, and you medicate him in QT, you will also kill the pests in the water

I set my QT tank up yesterday. Its 10 gallons, HOB filter, heater. My PH is 8.0 my Temp is 79.5. I have 2 fish covered in ICH. What do I do now. The tanknis bare bottom no sand no rock. I used Premixed RO water from LFS. I don't think i have time for it to cycle. Can I just put the fish in. What meds do I use.

Get a bottle of nitrifying bacteria and follow the directions. I am not sure where you live, but if you are on the west coast you can probably still get to petco or petsmart and get some tonight. Let i s mix overnight and put the fish in tomorrow.

Put your fish in the QT. Treat with Cupramine per the directions on the bottle. I would not worry about the cycle. Treat the Fish and do a 20% water change (2 gals) every 3rd day to remove the ammonia waste.

This is exactly, why new hobbiest's have such problems.

1-setting up a new tank too fast.
2-not setting up a QT tank first, then,.... the display.
3-not having a hospital tank ( 10g or so) ready to use at anytime for any sickness's.
4- not reading enough from well known and respected authors.
Etc,.....

I realize I'm being harsh, but this hobby takes a lot of time researching and is very expensive. The slower you go, the better for you, and the animals.
It's very different than a freshwater system !
