Hello! I have searched everything I can think of and I can't find any pictures that match. I thought this was coraline due to coloration, but there are bubbles. My sally lightfoot takes care of majority of them at night, then they come back in full force. I cut my extra coral lights today, but I want to make sure what this is and then proper treatment. Water is perfect, t this tank is ~3 months old.
Thank you so much in advance!!

Oh no! Cyano sounds awful, should I be worried?

PH - 8.0-8.2
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 0ppm
Calcium - 554

Those are the only tests I have so far. Any other treatment options? Lights are cut, I will turkey baste out as much as I can tonight and do a water change.

Alright well you have a problem. Cyano. Red cyano. Increase flow to that area. Do you have a UV? Try using that at night, or even just for 2 days straight. If you are already running one and its not working, get some Chemiclean for Red Cyano. Its a little powder you mix with water, add to your tank, increase aeration (meaning you needs LOTS of bubbles. More bubbles the better). Run that basically 24/7 until its gone. Follow the instructions on the package.

No UV. I will cut lights, increase flow and look for some Chemiclean. Getting the right ID was half the battle. Are my fish or coral in danger? I don't have a whole lot in that tank yet, but I don't want to lose any of it either!

Thank you everyone!!

You probably don’t need to do anything special, just keep up on your maintenance, keep your lights to 8 hours a day and don’t overfeed. Your tank is still super young and going through the uglies, cerith snails will eat it what you can’t turkey baste out. It’s just a power struggle between the bacteria’s in your tank right now.
Do you use rodi for water changes?

+1 on this. The tank is still young and Cyano is pretty normal at this stage. If it is not bother corals leave it be and you may find it will begin to fade away as it consumes whatever it happens to be feeding on.

Yes! We have the 7 stage BRS :)

As long as you’re using 0 tds water and not over feeding it’ll most likely go away as the tank establishes more, if you have adjustable lights you could cut some of the white out and it can help also.

Don’t stress about it too much though just part of a growing tank!

No they shouldnt be in danger, as long as the cyano doesnt cover any corals. If that happens, just use a turkey baster or smth similar to blast the cyano off the corals. Best of luck, tell us how it works for you.
