Ok thanks guess that means im doing ok with this tank 40 gallon if you was to add one thing to it what would you add to help it sorry kinda new to this

Not sure what you already have but add new things slowly so that your parameters are stable and your reef will thrive.

Quick question about my filter its a 100 gallon canister filter on a my 40 gallon tank is this to much also i have read that these types of filters are nitrate factory's also have a 100 gallon protein skimmer hang on is this a good setup?
 
They are nitrate factorys if you dont keep them clean. Sounds like a fine plan.
