i have a 125 RR tank and a 30 gallon sump, can i feed a reef octopus ddnw 250 skimmer the water coming from the overflows before it returns to the sump, and is this skimmer overkill for a 125 fully stocked. thanks for any help.

Yes you can feed the skimmer from the return. This is how I prefer a skimmer to be plumbed.

Just make sure the flow isnt too much. To high of flow will reduce effectiveness. Rule of thumb is 1.5 times water volume. So you have 155g total. So 232.5 gph.

so do i just run one return line to the skimmer and leave the other one going directly into the sump, i thought that would blow by the skimmer this is bad, correct? my return pump is a quiet one 4000 (about 750 gph)

I have seen allot of different ways to go about it. The one overflow method is probably a good way to go. For safety sake, if the skimmer would some how clog, the other overflow would help to prevent a tank overflow. On my tank, I feed my external BK300 with a pump that is 5 inches away from the sump drain. And the skimmer returns 8 inches upstream from it.
