Hi everyone, I was given these lights from my boss and I was wondering if they would work well for corals or would it be worth it to just get LEDs because they might cost to much to run? Any help is much appreciated!!!

I ran metal halides for a long time. Lots of people still swear by them! The biggest problem with them is the heat, they get hot which makes the tank hot. If it was me, I'd use them. Free, minus the cost of new bulbs is worth it for me.

I now use LED's and depending on the size of the tank you could run a combo of LED and Halides.

Do you know if they cost a lot to run? The ballast, I think it's called, just looks like it soaks up the electric bill lol

Cool tank, you could go mondern and get a wire shelf and attach the lights to the shelf and suspend the shelf over the tank. This way this would also lessen the heat and if the light do not work out or you want to make a change you can.

As those are double-ended halide bulbs, those fixtures should have the UV-shielded pieces of glass in place. From what I can see in the picture, it does not appear that they are present. Please, look into this before using the fixtures. Failure to do so could be very problematic.

Good call he gave me a bunch of stuff and there were two pieces of glass I almost threw away! Thanks I'll check to see if they fit but now it makes sense why they were included

By the way, if you decide not to use the lights, I know a guy in Galveston, Tx. that could absolutely put them to use!!!
