Hi
I am new to the hobby and have had my tank running for about 6 months.
I have no clean up crew yet due to the current virus lockdown in the UK
I took the opportunity to clean the return pump which was covered in, well I don't know it's just kind of white stuff.
Any way I cleaned up the pump and the return section of the sump and thought job done.
Now I have an infestation in the main display of what looks like whiteish tubes which are mostly small about the thickness of spaghetti with a hole at one end, I did find 2 which were large about the size of a bean.
I have spoken to my local fish store who said they looked like some sort of Tunicate but could not be sure and had no solution.
I did scrub the rock whilst syphoning the water through a filter sock but had no luck and it seems to be getting worse.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Richard

Hard to say from those pics. Are they soft? I'd say they are pineapple sponges. They are quite common in tanks about the age of yours. In fact my newest tank is the same age and I just pulled some egg crate out on my refugium and it had a bunch of them.

They are actually good to have. But as tanks get older they tend to go away.

+1 pineapple sponge - Filter feeders and common in sumps.
removal is easy using edge of an old credit card
