Hey everyone I have a dilemma, I ordered some peppermint shrimp for my tank from live aquaria, today the box arrived and it contains a clam! I have never had one and need some help caring for it while i wait for the vendor to help me with the mix up.

I have a 260G mixed reef, its only about 8 months old so i think its considered to be too young for a clam. I have an aragonite bottom but i do have a diamond goby that makes a mess. Should i still place it on the sand or should i try to place it on a rock surface low in the tank? Its about 2 inches so i think i will also need to supplementary feed it. What can i do to keep it healthy for now? I would like to not kill it if i can.

Thanks!

Derasas can take lower par, about where you would place a hammer. Low flow, and use a clam shell or something for it to attach to. I’d place that on the bottom in the sand. Assuming light levels are adequate.

Whats the lighting and flow like?

I have 2 36-inch ATI T5 hybrids with two A360X's in each. For flow i have to Gyre's and the returns from the sump. I have a Hammer in my tank thats pretty happy I will put it near that.

Thanks!

What ever hapened with the vendor and the mix up?

Vendor said to keep it or give it away and refunded my money. I ordered a new set of peppermint shrimp and they showed up.

On the plus side i have been managing to keep the clam alive so far, though i have no idea how to judge its overall health.
