help please

A 90 gallon is a nice size and you can do a lot with it -- you are going to have so much fun. There are tons of threads here on the forum about plumbing and sumps -- some more complicated than others. Also lots of Youtube videos are out there. Let's just get yours up and working. Welcome!

Hi @Devonb29 and welcome to R2R!
So the big line with the U shape bend at the top is your drain line, it's what your water will flow down into your sump through. And then other line your return pump gets plumbed into to return the saltwater to the tank :)

Hope this helps

Welcome to R2R!!! The description above explains your plumbing. The water will flow through the weir (the black finger things) and fill up the chamber with the pipes up to the the level of about mid way up the "U". The "U" drains the water from below the water surface in order to limit the noise. In order to raise or lower the water level slightly you can increase or decrease the return pump flow. For more increase or decrease in the water level then you can replace the long PVC pipe on the drain side for one that is longer or short (presumably the previous owner had this at a correct level and you shouldn't have to adjust it). Congratulations on your first post!

I was wondering how do you start the siphoning process ?
I believe the system doesnt run a siphon, it's simply a drain

Oh okay. Been trying to figure it out for a few days. Should I change the System so it could siphon water on it own?

As others have said, there is not a siphon. As the water level rises the water goes up into the open end of the "U" and once the water level gets high enough it spills across the "U" and flows down to the drain. The small 1/4" hole in the side of the "U" allows for air to be released and also acts as a siphon break in case a siphon were to be unintentionally created. IME, although this style of drain is not silent, because the open end of the "U" is below the water level there shouldn't be any gurgling sound and is not particularly noisy. The one thing that I may have done differently is to have the 1/4" hole on the top of the "U" instead of on the side, but it should work the way it is. It is up to you, but I would try it the way it is and then re-plumb if it doesn't work for you. Either way, good luck!
