So I have a slowly growing hair algae problem. Reef Flux doesn't seem to affect it. Peroxide does though. I took some rocks out several weeks ago and treated them with peroxide. The hair algae disappeared and has not returned to the treated rocks. However, the other rocks which are partially covered with SPS corals still have hair algae that is slowly spreading. I'd like to get ahead of the game and eradicate the remaining hair algae.

Any suggestions about a product that might work better than Reef Flux?
Can I remove the rocks with corals on them & treat the surfaces with peroxide without haraming the corals?
Can I use peroxide on the rocks without removing them from the DT?

Please and thank you.

I would firstly identify the cause of the hair algae, potentially raised phosphate levels, and then we can see the best way forward.

If you don’t cure the cause it will keep coming back

Got that... fixed it... that's why the hair algae isn't returning to the rock I cleaned with peroxide. The remaining algae just seems to be hanging on.

Try Vibrant. It was literally a miracle cure for my gha when I tried EVERYTHING else. I was shocked. Shocked. My tank is 4 years old and I had 0 issues with any other aspects of my tank during or after use, but i believe other people reported some cyano outbreaks after stopping it. Theres a whole thread about it on here. I tried water changes, black outs, lowerng nutrients to nothing, peroxide and scrubbing, bigger cuc, more tangs etc. etc. etc for 7 months it was constant work. For me, dosing for a month of vibrant and it was gone and has not returned over a month later, but my nutrients are still super low. If you still have a high influx of nutrients, you may want to add chaeto or adjust your nutrient situation so that when you do stop the vibrant, something "in your control" is available for nutrient uptake, if that is part of your issue, so you dont get hit with a different issue. But seriously, after so much work to clear my gha, this was amazing. Did I mention I was shocked? ; )

I would also check your source water. Are you using RO/DI water and if so what's the TDS coming out of it?

Yea... RO/DI water - 0 TDS, carbon dosing - Vinegar, good skimmer, enough substrate, GFO, etc. I have a pretty heavy bioload. I believe the hair algae got a foothold when I had a bad Cyano outbreak and treated it with Chemicleen. It now seems to be simply competing for the transient ammonia created by the bioload or bound in the substrate. Like I said, no algae has returned on the rocks I scrubbed using peroxide several weeks ago. I think the remaining algae is just hanging on. It's not really spreading, but the small tufts of algae just continue to get slowly larger.
