So we noticed something orange on one of our Gsp rocks, so we brought it closer to inspect it and it seems like it’s some type of coral spawning? Looks like it has feeders green color glow with orange base. It opens up and expands and it closes up if I poke at it

That looks like a strawberry anemone to me. I have a few, they only live in very niche spots in the tank and are very unlikely to spread or sting much of anything. I like mine.

Looks like a ball nem.

ime harmless unless appear Right near a coral. They cant sting particularly far away and do not reproduce quickly in most reef tanks. Those tanks they do manage to might have a different experience

Interesting! It looks really neat to be honest. Just was trippy because we are wondering where it came from and spawning from lol. I had 2 bta, one ended up splitting, than they all ended up not doing to well and ended up dying 1 by 1. I no longer have the btas but noticed this small thing growing 2 days ago. I was thinking maybe it’s a spawn from the btas. But def looks different than a bta

Interesting. Thank you for the help and info.

Do you have a Instagram? I’d like to check out your strawberry nem

I guess anything is possible, but it's more likely to have hitched into your tank. Mine grow on one specific rock in a relatively shaded area of my tank with lower flow. They're very sensitive, reproduce at a moderate rate and as far as I can tell aren't robust enough to be aggressive towards much of anything.

They are very cool to look at and I love checking in on mine every once in awhile. Pretty cool stuff

Definitely must have hitch hiked. Although what it is growing on I had it in my tank from the beginning when I just got my tank, it’s been 5 months and now just growing on that gsp rock, maybe hitched from a new frag I brought in but growing on my older gsp rock?

I'm not really sure how you can tell. I have no idea where mine came from, some of them are pretty small so it could've been hunkered down in a small crevice and decided to come out on day. It definitely could've move from a newer piece as well though.

It was very difficult to get a good Pic because they don't seem to like having a bright light shined on them and the one I found if tucked away in a crevice... But heres the Pic that I managed

Awesome thanks for the pictures, and it is Very interesting and I’m going to try to keep it alive and see what it turns into, It was very tiny looked like a orange dot a week ago until yesterday we noticed it has feeders. Thanks for all the tips and info

Sure thing and no problem at all. I first noticed mine when I had my rocks set up a bit differently, as a salmon colored area, at night I noticed the tenticles out when I came back with a flashlight.

I find that they like a similar environment to the clear/white sponges, so wherever you know you have sponge you can check around for any other nems
