Help please

canister filter = nitrate factory. I would change the pads out immediately because that canister filter will continue to increase the nitrate unless it is spotless. I would look into the seachem tidal hob filter or other filters unless you plan to put in a sump. Unless the pads are cleaned in the canister at least 1-2 times a week i suggest a new filter

I have this canister there's no pads only these mesh tubes. I got it about November, it doesn't gunk up like regular hob filter pads you're talking about.

The gunking up is just it showing what it collected, im sure the filter cartridge has the gunk just inside of it so it will need to be fully cleaned and wrung out 1-2 times per week. can you clean/wring out the filter cartridge in the sink? if not the cartridge itself should be replace every 1-2 weeks or it will just start building up nitrates

Ya it never really has much. I do rinse them but they're never bad

Ya I have to use spray nozzle on sink because it doesn't come apart and it's thick mesh you can't wring it, then rinse in rodi.

most of the krill debris will prob be caught in it so I would get a new cartridge. If I was you I would start a fluval g3 forum and ask people if they have had success using the filter on a reef, I wish I could help more but maybe people with experience with your filter could help.
