HELP PLS... Blue Leg Hermit Crabs in Australia

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone is well... I'm looking for blue leg hermit crabs to add to my CUC.

1. If there are any Aussies on here or anyone else that knows where to get them from in Aus, I'd be forever grateful.

2. How long is ok for them to ship? Will they survive from a different city?

3. Will they last to ship from US? Just incase I'm in a crazy mood and pay a crap load for shipping. I'm not that nuts... lol, I'd prob order a few other things we dont get here to make it a lil more worthwhile.

Unfortunately they wouldn’t survive the trip fro the US either because of the amount of time it would take for them to get there or because they would be destroyed by officials, Australia has some of the most strict import and export laws of any country and as far as I know anything thats not native that is found entering the country is destroyed. They’ve even euthanized some native animals because they couldn’t prove they were originally from Australia.

someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure your stuck with whats already there. I know we have some Aussie reefers on here so lets see what others have to say.

We do get various species of fish that r not native to Australia, so I'm guessing there would be some tedious approval required to bring in livestock.

I can imagine our customs/border control pulling out the rubber gloves on the lil thing , it would expedite his/ anyone's desire for a larger shell .

No point pursuing it from US if they not gonna survive.

I’m pretty sure you can get red legs here but not certain on blues tbh mate.

i was looking for these guys too, my luck, i ended up with two in my live rock order from GBR, lol but 70 kilos of live rock is a bit extreme to get a few blue legs, but they are around, maybe ask around the Queensland stores or the ones that get real live rock in from the barrier reef.
AQIS will just about kill anything at customs control holding points, even if it comes from interstate, so unless specifically papered...............
