Setup a new vision 450 tank 2 weeks ago and cycled it with dr tims. Tank has 3 chromis and our foxface which we just moved from our smaller tank. Hubby has just realised the light unit has 2 plugs.....one he left inside the internal filter so it has been submerged in water for nearly 3 weeks!!! How he didnt realise I dont know. Question is will this affect the tank/livestock/liverock in the tank? The plug stank like metal!!!

Welcome to R2R! I think you will be okay. I dropped a rusty screwdriver into my tank and didn't see any negative side effects. However, because the plug was in your tank for a while, I would recommend maybe using some Poly-Filter to remove any metals from the water. Overall, I wouldn't worry too much!

Thank you..have got some poly filter so will use some of that. Keeping everything crossed it will be ok. The fish seem to be fine. Wont let hubby live this one down lol

If your running fish only probably not a issue but if your keeping inverts or corals,or plan to in future I would run some CupriSorb and see if it changes color. Most plugs have copper prongs, normaly plated to be shiny but if underwater and rusting there is chance it leaches Cooper.

Welcome. I doubt it will be an issue since it was just in for a short time. I would rinse the plug in fresh water to rinse off the salt. Should be good to go

I second. The use cuprisorb to be safe
