Hi everyone I'm reasonably new to marine +2 years but in all that time I've never seen anything on posts anywhere like what's happening in my DT. My scopas tang has a clove polyp that's attached itself to his flank. Any suggestions really worried as tried to catch it only to have my clown suicide bomb out the tank. Popped her back in straight away but their all quite freaked out now so bit scared to attempt another catch today....not sure what to do???

Welcome to R2R. Sorry but I’m not sure how to help with your problem. You may want to make a new thread in the disease forum to possibly get some more answers to your question.

I would like to see pictures of your fish though, I have occasionally heard of aiptasia attaching to fish but never a clove polyp. From what I’ve read when it happens with aiptasia they usually don’t stay attached for very long. I assume with a fishes slime coating it’s hard to attach to them.

WOW! Welcome! Glad you joined. New one to me. Good luck to you and your tang!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you in Australia:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Welcome to R2R! As others have said, I would wait and observe but also if you can get a fairly clear photo, I would post it in the disease forum so that the fish medics can get a look at it.

Try blowing off fish with a turkey baster without causing it to dash and injure itself. Any pics of this under white lighting ?

Nothing like a little vitamin C to help with the stress. This is very old school but works well. ;)

Hi and welcome to R2R! Here you’ll find people to be friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. We’re glad you joined! If you haven’t started your build thread yet please do. I’d love to see your build as it progresses. As for the tang I wouldn’t worry too much unless the polyp has attracted to the tang’s gills. Like others have said the tang’s slime coat should be enough to make the polyp lose its grip. Hopefully you can post a picture of the tang.

Good morning from Aussie and truly a big thanks for all your advise. Somehow he has removed it during the night so I can relax now. Wish I'd taken a pic as I'm forever doing so if something looks different in tank so I have record of something to gauge by rather than rely on my memory. Unfortunately I was so shocked I'd spooked my clown to jump out the tank and monitoring her breathing and eating all yesterday so I was sidetracked. Will do next time anything else pops up and I'll pop in correct post forum. Thanks again for all your recommendations. As a reasonable newbie it can be a challenge to decide between watching and taking quick action.
