Hi all. Im new to reef tanking. I have a biocube 32 currently 2 weeks up and running. Waiting for my first cycle experience. I was told brown algae will occur and that's normal, but to watch for red if I get it. My live rock has started to turn brown over the last few days, but I noticed a little hint of red on top of the brown. mainly where the lights directly hit the live rock. Is this something I need to be concerned about or just let it do its thing? Water change of 20% every week so far. Salinity is at 1.025

It is not uncommon for you to be hit with the three plagues within the first year of a new tank.....

Algae (commonly hair or brown)
Cyanobacteria
Diatoms

Good husbandry is a big plus, but sometimes they just can't be avoided.....think of it as a right of passage.

I did use Dr Tims when I started the tank. The hair you mentioned I do see on the live rock. Like little brown hairs growing. Do I need to do anything like treat it, or let it just do what it does?
