Today I noticed my male Scribbled Angel had a lump on the side. I don’t see any wounds on the outside. My tank is a predator tank and there are squabbles.

I have not seen him involved in any aggression but he does have an area of his fin where it looks like a bite.

He is acting normal.

I cannot catch him as he is in my 800g DT with about 50 other fish and lots of aquascaping.

Any idea what it is? And if there is anything I can do? See pics.

beautiful fish. as for the lump, seeing no signs of injury may be either constipation or infection. I have seen this on Poma, emperor and asfur angels which seems to hit them but if fish is eating normal and breathing at a normal rate, I would suggest seachem kanaplex in a separate treatment tank or in tank - as you mentioned difficulty in catching fish- Ruby Rally pro which addresses secondary and bacterial infections and is absorbed.

It could be an abscess but I would have expected that would have grown in size over time - a few days to a week.

Sorry - I don’t have any in-tank treatments to suggest. A veterinarian would want to aspirate it to get an idea of what it is.

I have been out of town and my office has been caring for the fish. It’s possible it’s been there a few days.

I’ll see what he looks like over the next couple days. Wish I could catch him, but don’t see how.

Wait and see is the only lame advice I have for you. Are there any lionfish in the tank? Maybe it got jabbed?
