Help QT Fiji Orange tail puffer

Hello, I’m looking to QT this little puffer. Its about 3” long. I usually qt in copper power. I have the Hanna checker but I’ve read they don’t do well in copper. I was thinking of doing the every 36hr TMM method but I’m wonder how i can do this with a puffer that has to be transferred in a small cup full of water.

Looking for the safest way to treat this little one. I just got him yesterday. He is my 20G holding tank. Eating good but I have to QT Everything!

You could try paraguard or metroplex (either alone or feeding with focus).

I have exactly those but I thought Puffers can not be exposed to air. Sorry but I’m pretty new at this.

If it’s done quickly, the puffer is usually caught off guard. It does depend on the individual puffer, though. Mine is super chill, so I just netted him during the transfers. Did you get it online, or from an LFS? If it’s from the LFS did the clerk net the fish?

Bought it yesterday at LFS. Clerk captured in a container & told me not to let it get air. I put it in my arrival tank scooping it up in a small Tupperware container. Very chilled little fish. Wife absolutely loves it.

They do. There are certain extreme cases of marine ich where paraguard doesn't but I trust it enough for my qt.

A brief exposure for a transfer should not be a problem.
I've treated puffers with "chelated" copper. Specifically Copper Power. Put their apatite off a bit for a couple of days. The trick is to very slowly ramp up the copper with small doses like AM, lunch, PM - very small doses, until you reach therapeutic over 3-5 days. This way you can watch for copper sensitivity before it does serious damage. You never know when you will come across a very copper sensitive fish.
Instead of copper CP would be much easier on the fish and a whole lot less handling, especially for the "puffing up" reaction with these fish.

I called my vet who knows me very well but he told me he knows nothing about that stuff and couldn't give me script + apparently everyone is looking for it for our current situation. He did give me the name of another vet here in AZ that is apparently big into fish. I might try him tomorrow.

White and stringy gets our attention. But we also look for other symptoms like the fish eating like crazy but it's stomach is shrunken in. So you may have a mild internal pathogen. Can be treated by feeding General Cure + food + Focus. Can feed twice a day for up to 20-30 days or until the symptoms return to normal.

Thanks. This guy is doing the opposite. Brought him home 2 days ago fed him mysis... Eat no problem. This morning he didn't eat and I noticed he had stringy poop stuck on him. Tried to feed him this afternoon. Still didn't eat. I'm going to try tomorrow morning. I will put GC in his food. Should I also dose the tank to?
Yes I know about the corals. We had a valentini a while back. Was a little trouble maker corals and hermit legs. My wife loved that fish. She loves this one but now is worried. It will be going in a fowlr tank.

With the fish not eating the only thing to do is to dose the tank. Once it is eating, then it's ok to begin feeding the GC + food mix as long as you are careful not to over feed. A turkey baster to remove uneaten food/GC works pretty good.
