Hi guys, I've had a nice colony of rainbow acans in the tank for about 6 months doing great. Had my LFS frag them for me about a month ago into 3 separate peices, which were doing great for about 2 weeks. I noticed yesterday that all of them were deflated and thought maybe a crab got into them or something. Today they look nearly dead with skeleton showing. I run an SPS dominant tank, all my SPS look fine and my other acans are all puffed up too.

Params have all been stable. The only thing that's changed is that I dosed 5 drops of lugols in the tank. 5 drops yesterday and 5 today (180 gal), but I can't imagine how that would effect them like this, especially when we had them in a heavy iodine solution during and right after fragging. Any ideas what I should do to bring them back?

Thanks!

How much lighting are they under? Can you move them to a somewhat shaded area?

Yep, I could. They've always been in the same spot on my sand bed though. I'll try that.

Possible infection or cross contaminant from the frag session- 2 drops of Lugols in a cup of tank water, let the soak for 10-15 and lightly, LIGHTLY baste them.

Absolutely won't hurt, it just may help IME/O

Thanks for the advice Reefn'. That was my thought too but since the Lugols is the only thing that's changed in my tank, I was having second thoughts. I'll definitely try this on one of the frags and see what happens. Side note, my RBTA that's looked on the verge of death for 6 months but just wouldn't die is finally bubbling again immediately after the lugols dosing. I guess that means my tank was pretty depleted if iodine (I don't have a test kit)

Can't comment on the depletion, I used to dose iodine weekly for my first few years but haven't dosed it in the last 3. I have a RBTA thats grown to the size of a dinner plate ( a 15" dinner plate :) )in my display I'd love for it to split but that'll never happen.

Good luck with the cans, I've a bit of an obsession with them this year
