I noticed 3 days ago white spots on my regal tang so i thought ich, but the regal tang is also growing a lump on one of its fins that it is holding in to its side some of the time, got me wondering if it is ich or something else. I cant see white spots on other fish but my sailfin and clown tang are beginning to flash and scratch.
Should i treat or wait it out and see if they get over it? i have 2x 50litre tanks i can setup as qt's to do hypo on the fish, would be pretty cramped in them for the full 80days fishless DT, i have a sailfin, clowntang, regal tang, engineer gobi, 3 chromis, 2 clownfish, 2 royal grammas .

the images arent that clear but you can see the lump on the front of its fin, it started white and now is sort of pink in colour

Sounds like ich and lympocystis. How long have you had the fish?
had the fish about 10-12months, i recently added a whole bunch of snails/conchs etc that went straight in the tank, maybe 3 weeks ago, wondering if it came in on them, this is the first outbreak of ich ive had. the lymphcystis is something the tang would of already been exposed to? like a coldsore?

Definitely ich that came in on the snails. Lympho is like a herpes infection on fish. It’s viral and will go away on its own. I can’t tell for sure by the pic’s, but it looks like it. Do a google image search and see if it looks like what he has.

What is the method of qt for newly bought snails , coral frags, crabs etc to make sure they don’t bring in ich? Couple weeks in a fishless qt or something?

I personally put them in a fishless QT and jack the temp up to 83. This helps the lifecycle to speed up. Usually takes 6 weeks or less.

I have a 20 gallon qt just for corals, molluscs, shrimp, etc. It has matured over the past year, and I treat it like a regular reef tank. All of my new invertebrate arrivals go in for ~1-2 months. Sometimes I happen to have a fish in there that serves as something of a bell weather for ich, but I've been lucky so far. If need be, that fish would go into the separate fish qt for treatment.

I’d remove the fish so if ICH gets in…it won’t have a host to survive.

i thought i replied the other day but i must not of sent it XD
Ive caught and treated my fish once before for tuberlerrians and it was not something i want to repeat. I have a new tank being built so in a couple months i will have to catch and move everything so i have a chance to be rid ich free again then. I ordered a UV so if it gets bad i have something i can do to help take the edge of it but virtually as i 'clicked buy' and the money left my account all the white dots fell off the fish ;Facepalm, so if anyone is wondering, yes uv does work ;)
The tang still has his growth on his fin but almost all the ich spots have faded and dropped off.
Is it likely i will see a big reinfection or if the dots dissapear is that a sign the fishes immune systems have kicked in and fought it off?

This looks much like lympho and usually due to poor water quality and/or diet
Assure ammonia-nitrate-ph-salinity are not elevated
What test kits are you using?
How is fishs breathing rate?
What are you feeding it!?

feeding wise , vitalis pellets & flakes and i add a sheet of norri once and a while but ive never seen then actively eat the norri, it usually sits there for a few days until the flow gets rid of it.
my tests are jbl aquatest, i find them quite hard to read as depending what light your under the colour charts arent always clear.
I found my sailfin gasping for breath on his side on the bottom yesterday but i had used phosphate rx as part of a plan to get rid of gha thats taking over, i removed him into a frag tank and after an hour or so he was back to normal & i increased the surface agitation in the DT assuming it was oxygen related from the phos rx and subsequent white cloud. I set my skimmer to a wet skim and removed about 40litres of skim and my water is the clearest ive ever seen it.
where is the best (cheapest :D) place in the UK to send a sample in for regular testing?

Triton serves Europe for testing
You will need to bump diet- very vitamin deficient
