I have a 600 gal salt water tank and the over flow noise is horrible (loud) when I first installed the tank it wasn't that bad running 2 pumps, installed a 3rd one for more circulation and boy did the return flow get loud. Have place caps that look like domes on the 4 return lines with little help in quieting it down. Hoping that someone has better idea please advise!

What part is the noise coming from?
Is the the flow pumps in the tank?
Is it the water going down the drain lines into the sump?
Or the return pump?
Pictures might help here.

The noise is coming from my return box I have two inside the aquarium as you could see in pic dome cover that is ventilated sits on top of both return lines 2, in each box. I attached pics hope you could help Thanks

Try setting it up as herbie or beananimal drain. The full siphon makes it quiet. The only noise coming from my tank is the skimmer. And a 600 gallon as your first tank! Jealous!

If the noise is coming from the overflow box, could it be the water level inside the box is too low?
Maybe increase the drain line height.

not sure I know what a Herbie or bqeananimal drain is can you explain please

Thanks don't think I have enough room to work in return box. thanks for advice
with the bean animal, you need a back wall drilled tank, but the herbie, it's design is meant for 2 drains and a valve on one under the tank.
One drain line is shorter than the other and used as a full drain and the other is the emergency drain.
Looks like the 2 drains are there.

One thing you have to do is use a return pump that doesn't over tax the single drain.

So are the return lines under water? Is it creating a vortex in the overflow box? how big are the drain pipes? how much water are you moving with all 3 pumps?

returns are 1" have 1 Octo s-8 pump and 2 Vectra Im probably moving 2 much water I set all pumps on half GPH and it quieted it down somewhat

IMO you really only need 1800gph to 3000gph tops.
THe VarioS-8 would probably be enough by itself.
