I have a Golden Rhomboid wrasse that I got a little over 2 weeks ago from LA. She has been doing great, until I moved her to my DT after qt. my large clown beat her up a bit, so I removed the clown. That same day she had started having trouble swimming. Now she can barely stay upright and just floats in the current, with occasional spurts of energy. I suspect she may have swim bladder disease, but would it come on that quick? Is there anything I can do to save this wrasse? as you probably know, these wrasses aren't cheap and my 14 day guarantee is up, so I will do anything to save her right now. Is it pointless to call LA since my guarantee is up?

All help is MUCH appreciated!!!!!

Can you post a video of her swimming, if she’s not at the top fighting to swim down then it is probably a spinal injury which is common among wrasses. If she’s swimming head up (vertical) and has decreased use of her tail then that’s probably the issue. A video would help tremendously

I went to go take a video, but she is already settled into the rock for the night and I dont want to disturb her. She is not staying at the surface at all. She is staying vertical like you said and also rolling over in the current. I think you could be correct about the spinal injury. She probably jumped the my clown bullied her and hit my lights or lid. Is there anything I can do for her?

Not a very good prognosis with spinal injury unfortunately :/ can try to dose Epsom salt (plain, unscented, USP grade), but not likely to make a huge difference.

One thing to consider though, was the fish treated for intestinal parasites in QT? Any white stringy poop?

There’s been some recent evidence that SOME spinal injuries could actually be caused my intestinal parasites (flagellates) invading the spinal column. If the fish is eating, medicated food might be an option to try.

She was treated with two rounds of Prazipro and one round of antibacterial treatment.

Is she still eating? Do you have either metroplex or General cure, and Focus on hand? It’s worth a try...

she is still eating. Im moving her to my treatment tank now (she as in a small frag tank so I cant dose medication in there). Im going to do the epsom salt like you said, another round of prazipro, and Seachem Neoplex. I dont have the medications you listed on hand, I have Prazipro, Neoplex, Cupramine, and Kordon rapid-cire ich treatment. How do I do the epsom salt and what is the quantity/gallon? or is it a soak?

This is an internal treatment, so you need to soak it’s food. The focus is a binder, to keep the meds with the food and not have them disperse as soon as they hit the water.

Do you have anywhere to get meds locally? You really need metronidazole for flagellates, which are the intestinal parasites that can cause these symptoms.

However, a physical injury is very commonly the cause as well... and in that case it probably won’t be much help :/

The Epsom salt is dosed into the water column at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. It *could* help in either scenario.

The Epsom salt or another med? sorry, im a bit confused about which one is the internal treatment?

Thanks so much! I do have a place to get meds locally, but can I order it in from amazon? my LFS is a two hour drive and I won't be able to go for a while.

The general cure or metroplex + focus is the internal treatment.

Epsom salt is a tank treatment.

Sorry for being confusing... trying to jam lots of advice into a small post. Otherwise my responses start to look like novels lol
