Looking at different options for ghost overflow on my 150G build. Having trouble finding good information about the different options.

My priorities are:

Well made
quiet
easy to install/set up

Pretty much in that order. I have looked at Synergy, Reef Savvy and Modular Marine. They basically seem like they are the same? I've also read about toothless overflows?

In any event, what I would appreciate is for people running this type of overflow on their tank to chime in and let me know

  • if they are stoked with their overflow
  • if there are features they would have included
  • what/if anything they would do differently

TIA!!

I run a large MM unit on my 45o and have been very happy with it. Build quality is excellent. Interior box has bent rather than welded corners. Aesthetically nicer. The KEY is to find a model where the exterior and interior boxes are at the same level. With a dropped down exterior box, should you push it close to max flow, it is near impossible to make it quiet.

This is key. Eshopps has the same design flaw where the external box is lower. Never understood why people design them that way. I have a modular marine as well. Very happy with it. Only thing I wish is if it had a removable weir to make cleaning it easier.

Thank you all very much! Exactly what I was hoping for.

Ca1ore-I had read threads on these overflows on RC that you had contributed to before you had installed and was looking to see if I could find anything on how it ended up working out for you.

Gablami-Thanks! I appreciate you being specific with what features I would be looking for.

Think I'm between the EMS and MM.

Thoughts on teeth vs teethless? I'm leaning a little toward teethless to limit any algae growth between the teeth that could impeed flow.

I have been very happy with the 36” MM on my current tank. If you look at my build thread you’ll see pictures of it. I personally prefer a toothed weir. You can easily shade it to prevent algae growth. The current versions of MM have a removable weir.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
