Help setting up Maxspect gyre xf-230 pumps!

I recently bought the gyre xf-230 pump with the advanced controller and tried to hook up my older xf-130 pump to it as maxspect says they're compatible. After hooking up the two pumps to the controller only one of the pumps comes on even though I've selected both A/B pumps to be on with anti-sync mode. I can see on the display both pumps start to ramp up opposite of each other as they should but after about 5 seconds one of the pumps goes to zero and does not ramp anymore and also says "Off" next to the (A). Also, even though the display indicates both pumps to be ramping opposite of each other only 1 actually comes on and as mentioned the display only shows both working for seconds then goes to OFF.

I've verified both pumps actually work by swapping the pumps channels they're connected to, it seems as maybe one of the channels is faulty on the controller? this is a brand new unit as well. Anybody have any help to fix this? is there something I'm missing?

Sounds like you've tried everything I could think to suggest (swapping the pumps), so I think you're on the right track. @jsker has been doing something similar lately; you have any suggestions?

Have you tried contacting Maxspect?

That sounds like a controller issue. I have read others that are using 130's and 230' on the same controller I would summit a support ticket at coralview link they are fast to get back.

I submitted a ticket with coralvue and they're sending me a replacement controller. I guess quality control and attention to detail isn't prevalent in the hobby anymore, so far I've had a brand new Apex controller that was faulty out of the box, a brand new Gyre controller also faulty out of the box and a new eheim heater that is nowhere near accurate. One would think that the manufacturers of these products have never owned a tank or researched the hobby particularly the part where stability comes into play. Oh I almost forgot, 1 of my brand new hydra 26hd's fresh out the box making a terrible rattling noise when the fan came on...turns out the plastic cover over the fan area is touching the fins. Neptune/Eheim/AI/Maxspect Great going Guy's! smh..

Update- I got the new controller in yesterday hooked it up to the pumps and it works as advertised now! imagine that. I have to say though the newer 200 series pumps are WAAAAY louder than my xf130.

There shouldn't be any difference (or not a noticeable one, at least). It is possible that the newer pump is in need of some adjustment, perhaps? I usually take mine apart, clean then, and reassemble carefully any time they start making the slightest noise. Might want to give that a shot?

I've found if the bushings aren't set correctly the pumps will put out a whine, or if you have the cages on backwards (A:B B:A)

If that's the case then I guess I put too much faith in the company that it would've been put together right from the factory although they did send me a faulty controller from the get go so at this point I wouldn't put it past them.

The alignment is pretty sensitive - initially, at least; mine seem to have gotten easier to reassemble over time. Either that, or else I've just gotten better at putting them back together (after cleaning them and such).
For one of my units, when I opened the box, it was all sorts of mess. That was the early model, though - the newer ones have better packaging. But it's still possible that your unit was jumbled about during transport...

On my recent build I've had a faulty 2016 Apex controller, faulty Eheim heater, Faulty Maxspect advanced controller and faulty Hydra 26hd ALL brand new out of the box. All with the exception of the heater were sent back verified faulty from the manufacturer and since replaced (Apex demanded $300 deposit from me before they would even send replacement). IMO all these manufacturers need to get their heads outta their ***** and start focusing on quality control, we pay too much dang money for these products to be faulty out of the box.

The heater i'm still using but its nowhere near accurate, two other thermostats read the same and the eheim is at least 4 degrees off so i've offset the thermostat on it to cover this as well plugged it into my apex energy bar so it will shutoff through apex.

I can see how it's frustrating, for sure. But at least this is likely the best type of setup anyways. Have you seen the BRS video from today?
