Hello

I just received my reef radiance dm 132E. It is definitely a nice light. I am switching from the hood of my jbj nano 28 gallon intermediate and can tell I am in for a treat. I have a few questions I am hoping everyone on R2R can help with.

1) How can I tell if the lights are not running at full strength (not the dimmer, but the appropriate par/pur at full strength)? I know this sounds strange, but when my lights turned on today (Have had them for about 1 week) it seemed more blue/purple but I did not change the dimmers at all. I just want to make sure there was not a problem with the light. Is there a meter or something I can use to test the light?

2) What lights affect coral growth and coral coloration (not how they look under lights, but what lights actually affect the underlying color)?

3) Depending on the answer above, what is the recommendation on setting my lights? I want to make sure the corals are growing well and color is keeping nice, but don't want a windex affect.

Thanks for the advice everyone... I am sure my lights are amazing, I just need to learn to use them correctly and to test them.

A par meter will help with your penetration question as for which color is all preference to you're liking. Keep in mind for the best growth you will want the light around the 6500k range which is around the color the sun produces but is very yellow in appearance. Now if you want a nice balance of growth and appearance 10k is a good range and as you go up in kelvin the colors of your corals will pop and will be more visually appealing but you will lose growth rate imo. Hope this helps.
