Seriously ladies and gents. I have an issue that needs solving. I am newbe green as they get with reefing did my home work on salt water. I've been in fresh water for years no done with that.. Am setting up a 180 gallong which am ok on for now until it's set up lol. The 180 has the works protein skimmer sump led lighting and so on. But back to why am here is I was going to use this 30 gallon oeanic as a quarantine tank but changed my mind to set it up as a small saltwater community tank. I need help finding a skimmer for it please. Or don't I need one.. some friends tell me to just do water changes weekly.. my lfs has a reefoctopus lx1000 skimmer rated for a 100 gallon tank is this a good skimmer for this size tank?? I called bulkreef supply and a rep told me to get the reefoctopus bh90 but researched it and it's rated for a 130 gallon tank.. can any help me out here please. This is my diy stand with tank..

It really come down to livestock you want to keep. If you keep fewer fish with lps corals and softies you might be ok with waterchange. I have kept small tanks with both skimmer and skimmerless and it doesnt matter much if the bioload is low. I would suggest to go barebottom if you decide to go skimmerless.

That's my 25 gallon without skimmer, barebottom and plenty of flow. I blast the rock using turkey baster every week. Siphon the debris with waterchange and my nirtate and phosphate is really low. I put activated carbon mix with gfo in the hob filter.
