I noticed my blue tang had a couple strange bumps on one side of her and by the gill opening. They are the same color as her and seem to be under her skin they seem to almost have white heads. She rubs on rocks and it’s been 3 days since I first spotted it she’s in a QT tank right now. Any ideas what it is? from what I can tell it doesn’t quite look like ich as it’s not above the skin or look like salt grains. Please help

Unfortunately it does sound like the start of ich

Ich (Cryptocaryon Irritans)

One of the most well-known parasites in the hobby. It is identified by salt-like dots on the body and/or fins. This parasite can live for years in the gills of the fish and go unnoticed by the hobbyist for that time. Behavioral symptoms include breathing heavily, flashing, scratching on the sand or rocks and head twitching. Treatment can be done several ways including Copper, Tank Transfer Method (TTM), Chloroquine Phosphate and Hypo salinity. It’s important to note that hypo salinity will not treat for some strains of ick.

Thank you, I assumed that was the case but you know how it is when you panic and start overthinking. Luckily I Caught it early and I’m currently treating her with copper
I just hope it didn’t have time to spread...

Unfortunately if one fish has it, every fish that has come in contact with that fish is likely infected as well :(

All of the fish in that tank will need copper treatment for 30 days or 14 days if you transfer to a sterile tank after 14. Your display tank will need to be fallow (fishless ) for 76 days also.

Ive been trying to find the answer but is the 14 days critical for ich life cycle? Or are we just trying to lessen the copper exposure?
Im pretty sure i did 14 days before transfering to sterile tank, but was wondering if 15 would screw this process up....

I believe that is correct. @HotRocks can probably explain it better than I can. But it does have to do with the life cycle. By the 14th day they've fallen off the fish to the free floating stage and this is when the copper kills them (I may be wrong but I think that's how it works)

Anything after 14 days of therapuetic copper is safe to transfer.
