I have a 36" tall stand, and I was planning on using a 75 gallon sump for my 210 DT. However, once I got the sump underneath the stand, I realized it was no way I could work in it because it was too tall! This poses a huge dilemma, as I had already baffled the sump off into 3 chambers for skimmer, return, and fuge.

I would actually need a sump that is about 16" tall, vs. the 21" of the 75. I do have a 40 breeder that I was gonna setup as a frag tank....but that would probably eliminate me being able to have a fuge, because the skimmer footprint is 13"x10". If it matters at all, the return pump is a waterblaster7000.

Do I just baffle out the 40 breeder and only run a skimmer and return section? Or can I find a sump with dimensions that will be suitable to fit? Would the 40 even be large enough of a sump for that size tank?

i would just baffle out the 40 i have a 240 with a 75 gallon sump and i have no work room either and im running a 18"x 14" skimmer so im gonna run a 40 breeder and still be able to make a small fuge and return dont want to go that small but a 50 and 55 is the same height and i dont want to remake the stand lol hope this helps good luck

I did the same thing with my 180g. I had a 75 with baffles but I had no room to work under the tank. I bought a 40 gallon breeder from petcos $1 gallon sale, baffled it, i also still have a skimmer section, fuge, and return.

Do you have photos of your situation? What about locating the sump next to the stand or in the basement?

Ha ha! i did the same thing. I thought I have a 75 so why not use it. I got it all set up but when I put it into the stand I realized I couldn't get the skimmer cup out except by moving it the long way to the side that has open stand area so I can use the additional clearance there... It sucks and I am considering going back to a 40 breeder, but I like the 75 length so I may get a friend to custom build one for me if he ever has the time...
