It’s time to do a termite tent on my home what do I do with my tank and it’s inhabitants ?

Yikes!! Turn off skimmers so theyre not pulling air. Have gac ready, and seal it off....like you were installing vapor barrier....covered and all seams taped...i wish u all the luck! Any other ideas #reefsquad ?

If you got to do a tent around/over your house you got to get he tank out.
Nothing will survive if you don’t.
+1 unfortunately. Tear down and rebuild is the only way to ensure that your tank doesnt get wiped out by the fumes. If they were only doing one room itd be a different story, but if they're blasting the whole house, those treatments are meant to get into every crack and crevace of your home, tank included.

Are there no other option for treatment?

That’s what I’m thinking too.
Here in South Texas termites are a problem but using a pest control company on a monthly schedule and having simple bait boxes around your house you should be fine.
I’ve seen homes with really bad infestation on termites that homeowners had to leave for a week due to the treatment process but never got covered up.
Now bed bugs is a different story as you only can battle them effectively by sealing the home and raise temps till 100*F.

IMO, get a second opinion from a other licensed pest control company.

Wow. That would be my worst nightmare. Have tanks everywhere. I personally would let the termites eat my house before I put my reefs in jeopardy. If yon can break it down and move everything out to safe haven like a lfs or friend w reefs I would do that. Dang ur in quite the pickle, I hope all works out for you. Scary thought for sure.

Double yikes!! That sucks! Id be sol if that was my house....

How long will the tent be on the house? I'd be concerned with topping off, dosing etc. Do you have a LFS that could break the tank down and store your livestock? Sealing it off might be your only option and turn the skimmer off.

Tent will be on for 3 days

Thanks . I’m hoping I can get this figured out

Yes it is . Especially considering my tank is finally maturing

How many gallons is the tank and what is in it? If it’s a small tank say 30g or less I would tear it down and set it back up where ever your staying. Larger than that I would tear it down take all the livestock to lfs to hold for you. No matter how good you seal it your still gonna need to keep oxygen going to it and pumps running, at minimum, the gas will most likely still get in. If it’s bigger than 30g Best thing would be if you could tear it down and set it back up at a close neighbors house, a lot of work but atleast you won’t lose everything. I have termites, my wife brought up tenting, I pointed to the tank and she said well forget tenting. Maybe look into the other treatments for termites where they don’t tent and nuke. Good luck

You might consider wrapping your tank in plastic and feeding your skimmer with fresh air taken a certain distance from your house. Feeding the wrap with a blower from the same outdoor air will keep the wrap under positive pressure. No matter how tight you make the wrap, it will leak which is fine as long as it only leaks fresh air into your fumigated home.

No short cuts in reefing. Empty tank into garbage containers lined by a black bag. Heater and airstone. Bring them to your neighbors house. Than bring the tank, sump to the neighbor. Go away three days.

Tear down seems to be the general consensus . Thanks for the input everyone
