I just did a WC, and one of my cheap floating thermometers broke.
The mercury is in tact, but the pellets are gone. Are the pellets dangerous to the tank?
I have No fish in this tank. A 75g with about 65g of water. No filtration. Just circulation and heat. I do have a few hermits and an arrow crab.
Tank is fallow for about 3 mo. Rock is old, like 3 years and well established.
What do I do???

You need to find those beads, if possible. I broke one in my saltwater holding tank and the beads left rust stains on the bottom where they were laying.

Fun fact thermometers (most at least) don't use Mercury anymore. Something about Mercury not being safe lol.

Anyways I have no idea what the pellets are but if you remove them and did water changes I think you'll be fine. Even better if you have an extra filter somewhere you could add carbon to that to soak up anything toxic

As others have said, most thermometers don't contain mercury anymore. And what type of beads were in the thermometer? I've had something similar happen to me a while back and there were metal beads all over my tank, I removed them by using a super strong magnet

Right after my post I searched around and found where the thermometer broke. Luckily the sand was the shallowest there. I scooped pretty much everything out until I couldn't see any more pellets in my scooper. I even found the glass tip.
I actually thought to myself, I wish these things were magnetic. But I was too stressed to think straight. I was thinking lead the whole time.
Lessons learned, remain calm...
Thanks for the help guys.
I'll do my WC more frequently and I'll run a rare earth mag through the sand bed a few times.
