Hi- This morning my Lawnmower Blenny came barreling out of the rocks it was really weird. He was literally doing barrel rolls. I watched him for a second to see if it was just something weird or what but then he went upside down. I immediately got him out the tank. I put him in to a bucket with a drip acclimator going to observe him while I dedcided what to do. This is when I noticed a white cloud substance coming out of where he poops. He just kept going upside down also. It didn’t take long and I’d say within an hour he had died. He looks totally healthy on the outside, his belly is huge but it has been from day 1 And my LFS said he is just a pig and many Lawn mower Blenny stomachs look like that when they over eat. I QT‘ed him with 2 clowns prior to putting them in to the tank. They all seemed good,, healthy and ate a ton so after about 45 days of QT they went in to DT. They have been in there for almost 2 months. All water parameters are in the suggested ranges, temp, salinity, ph, etc all good. The other fish seem fine. Again on the outside he looks fine, really good colorading, no spots, skin sloughing, etc....Could he have died from like constipation or something and I should have done an epsom salt batH? I can’t find any information on what I saw today In regards to the white cloudy stuff coming out of him. How does one determine how a fish died when they look ok? What else could I be looking for? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Yes I will. I put him in to freshwater to check for Flukes and then will put him on a paper towel and send pictures. I hope it isn’t something I should be getting the other fish out of DT for. I do have QT tanks I could put them in if necessary.

Well absolutely 0 flukes or anything from putting him in freshwater. Here are some pics if that may help anyone. I was worried about size of belly but he’s been like that off and on since I got him and LFS guy said that is pretty normal for Blenny bellies.

I'm sorry for your loss and I can't be very helpful, but my lawnmower blenny sometimes swims up and down on the glass very rapidly before he does a poop. If it was constipation you may have seen him do that a lot without 'success'? Otherwise my guess would be some internal parasite messing with his organs, probably not a lot you could have done for him if it went downhill so rapidly from the night before.

Internal bacterial infections can cause bloating and death. Something else like internal parasites probably caused the bacterial infection.
Sorry for your loss :(
