My cheapy digital thermometer fell into my brute of salt water. I added the salt a couple hours ago and didn't realize the thermometer had fallen inside

Is the water ruined?

Chances are it okay. How's the thermometer?

It’s fine. The salts probably not going to do much for the thermometer over time tho. Buy a new cheap Digital. Theirs not much to those thermometers. If it was Mercury and it broke I’d say make a new batch. That stuff is toxic as hell. To you even. Lucky for you that stuff hasn’t been allowed since 2003. The battery is probably a cheap coin cell. It should be fine.

If you don't see any corrosion on the thermometer and battery, your water is fine

LR44 Button Cell. I was close. Not a coin cell. It’s Alkaline. It’s probably okay. That’s a tiny sucker. They are insulated pretty good. Just look for corrosion.

I think your good!!!! You’d see a lot more corrosion than that if it leaked. And if it did leak isn’t going to be enough to contaminate the water unless it was in their forever. Your filters would pick it up.

Lol I’m saying too much. Your good for short! I can tell by the pics.

Thank you all so much for the quick response!! I'd have hated to waste not just the water, but the salt lol's
Your good. I like comming on here to see what others experience! The person who dosent ask has a lower success rate in this hobby including me. I know my batteries lol. And yeah you shouldn’t have to re do anything. If somebody can say with confidence it’s fine. Then your good. We all make mistakes. The bigger mistake would of been not asking if you didn’t know.

If that temp probe decides to start working again definitely replace it. The saltwater is most definitely going to shorten its life span or potentially cause a bad reading considering the circuitry was submerged.

Nothing wrong with a cheap one either as long as it’s accurate.
