I am finishing my water station and I need a way to know the water level in a solid non-translucent water container.

Any advice? I'm thinking possibly having a float switch that will turn off the fill pump, and set it up with a magnet so I can change the level for when I want a small or large amount of water etc. but I'm really hoping for a better solution.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Do you use the apex? I run the ATK (auto top off kit) and it had two extra slots for optical sensors. I use one of them for an optical sensor to warn me of low levels in my RODI container (which is also not translucent and a pita to get to) which has worked like a charm. It beeps annoyingly (how I set it up) so that I am forced to react! :)

I think the float switch is the best option. If you just want to know how much water is in your container you can plumb a DIY sight gauge with RO/DI plumbing and an acrylic tube, but I think the float switch will be easier to install.
