Hi everyone,

I can’t to keep my tank’s temperature down.

I have had my heater unplugged all day and with my light on, it has been at 80.2 deg f. Without the light on it seems to be low 79 deg.

Oh okay but I would have to leave the lid off right?

Oh it’s not? I thought the little guys were roasting. Haha

Tell us more about your tank.
Is it an all-in-one? Or do you have a sump?
Is the light mounted/hung, or laying on the cover?

Plus, do you have jumping fish that need the cover?

Your tank temps may be OK in Feb, but what about July?

I can’t live without a chiller on my tank. Especially when summer comes around. I always fear random temp swings.

Eighty degrees is just fine. Corals bleach at high temperatures. It is a bit episodic about just what temp you need to cause the problem. It seems to depend some on local conditions. I have scuba dived on healthy reefs that were at 84 and even a bit higher. Anything below 82 is fine. You get a greater margin of error at lower temps. Also more oxygen dissolves in water at lower temps meaning less stress for fish.

You Can set up some clip on fans in your sump and have a controller turns them on at a certain temp and off when the tank cools.
