I have my LTA in my tank for about 2 weeks now and today he doesnt look so hot...Yesterday i fed him a piece of a silverside but it did not eat it and today it looks like it is eating itself...

They will sometimes retract -- could be for numerous reasons, some good, some bad.
If your anemone had its foot buried in the sandbed, and had been in your tank for months, I wouldn't be too concerned, but since it is new and not settled in....

How deep is your sandbed? From that picture it looks way too shallow, should be around 4 inches or more (( can be locally that deep ))

What are your current water parameters -- with numbers please
How long has your tank been set up?
What size tank?
What lights do you have?
Was the anemone bought online or an LFS? (( how did you acclimate it? ))

ETA --- I personally stopped using silversides about 10 years ago. Myself and other experienced anemone keepers have had major issues with them -- I lost an otherwise healthy H. malu to their use.

The sandbed is not 4'' maybe 2''-3'' i had dug a small area in the corner to see if the anemone would stick to the glass on the bottom...it was doing well for the time it was in the tank then today it looks like its turning inside out.

Water parameters i am going to check when i get home but yesterday PH ammonia nitrate and nitrite were all in range

the tank has been set up for almost 8 weeks

24 gallons

i have the fluval led marine & reef light that came with my "all in one"

I bought the anemone at a LFS and drip acclimated it for about 45 mins

What do you feed your anemone? I did a lot of reading and it seemed silversides were the way to go and i asked the LFS and they also led me to use silversides.

8 weeks, IMO/E, is way too soon for an anemone, 6 months is better. It really takes that long for your tank for fully cycle and mature. Still have a couple of algae issues to go through.

A healthy M. doreensis will outgrow a 24 in short order.

Not familiar with those lights, but usually not a fan of all in one lights.

I haven't directly fed any of my anemones (( M. doreensis, E. quadricolor, and S. haddoni )) in over a year. However, when I did, I used frozen (( thawed )) krill. Smaller pieces of food are easier to digest, and have a less chance of fouling the internal water of the anemone.

For now, I would do a water change, and hope that the silverside caused this --- though would like to know the parameters, including salinity/SG.
BTW -- are you using RO/DI water?

The lights definitely are not the best but i have a few nice LPS frags that are doing very well under them so they do the trick for now...

I am using ro/di.

In my research i read if the anemone isnt doing well it can poison the tank...should this be a concern? Anything special i should do with the anemone after the water change? i did see some people putting the anemone on a piece of PVC full of sand in a quarantine.
