Help - what is this algae

Hi All,

I have always been getting a reddy brown colouring on my sand but over the last few months it has started to get quite thick causing the sand to clump together. The suction hose can’t syphon it up as the sand stuck to it makes it too heavy. Any idea what it is and how to stop it?

Cyano. More flow and better water quality. Maybe both the water your adding and the saltwater in thr display. Hths

Definitely sounds like cyano. As said above, more flow and better water quality (meaning reducing the nutrients). Just up the water changes or increase nutrient export.

Sounds about right, it gathers more around the dead spots. Trouble is though if I turn the flow up any more it irritates the corals

You can provide more random flow vs linear directed?
You may need another pump. Sorry bearer of bad news i am. Lol.
