Hello,

I have been seeing these grow more and more over the week. I am not sure what they are or why they are growing as such a rate. Is there something that will eat and control them or do I need to extract them myself.

HELP!

Hard to tell on my phone, but looks like aiptasia. If so, yes you need to kill them. There are several fish/inverts that will eat them and several products that can be used to kill them.

Thank you.

Thank you, I am thinking of taking the rocks out and using my scalpel and removing them one by one.

Marano or aiptasia

Majano*** autocorrect sucks

Thank you.

Most likely that won’t work. They hide in the rocks well when bothered. You can super glue them or use a paste that kills them. So many ways but if it’s easy to get the rock out try to gouge them out

Scalpel will NOT work.

Boil some water. Take rock out of tank and pour boiling water on the aptasia. If you use a scalpel, you will have many more within a week or two when you return the rock to the tank.

Thank you, I bought some red sea aiptasia-x to kill them. I am going to use the boiling water on sime that are near my other anemones and use the chemical on the others.

This.

Hi, I'm new here but quick question regarding red sea aiptasia-x. Is it safe to use in a mixed reef? Does it affect the water parameter's much?

I heard that aiptasia release spawn/eggs when they are disturbed too much in the water like with a scalpel. So trying to kill them that way spreads it even more.

Yes, I read that too. I abandoned that plan and moving to Aiptasia_X by Red Reef and hot water

Everything I read about Aiptasia-x is that it is safe to use in the tank and that there was no harm to the other organisms. I am going to apply it to the tank and then quickly turn around and do a water change. Hopefully this will aid in the recovery of everybody except the aiptasia lol

Aiptasia X is reef safe. Just dont get it on your other anemones or creatures. They will stay away naturally. It is very acidic (kalk paste). It will alter your reef chemistry if you use a lot in a short period of time. Nothing to really worry about. You can always do a small water change to counter this if it bothers you. Scraping will not work, even out of the tank. You cant get it all and pieces will grow into full size ones. Kill all you can with the Ap-x. I then recommend a few peppermint shrimp to eat any new little ones that pop up. After a month or so of not seeing them you can sell the shrimp to your LFS or another reefer.

Wow, thanks lapin for advice. I had aiptasia for a bit when I first started my tank, but I treated early (hot water method) and they never came back. Guess early treatment is always best.

Aptasia. They are a pita to get rid of, but you have to fight them. I have tried Peppermint shrimp, Aptasia eating File Fish, and AtasiaX. The shrimp and fish did not do anything. Using AptasiaX is like playing whack a mole. Next thing I will try is Berghia but they are expensive.
