Help! What is this infection? (Pictures)

i don’t know what this is or how to treat it. I need advice. It’s been getting worse after it suddenly appeared three days ago. Fish acts healthy otherwise. It’s in quarantine right now. Sulfaplex and ruby reef rally are in the tank. But I don’t know how to really treat it without knowing what it is.

I’m not sure if it shows in the pictures but it’s puffy and looks about as dense as the head of a cue tip. It appeared suddenly and hasn’t changed much since although it has gotten slightly larger and sticks out a little further.

Bacterial infection. Highly recommend using NFG for these types of "red sores", but it can be a bit difficult to source quickly. Another option is the "trifecta" of Metro + Furan2 + Kanaplex. These types of sores can go sideways really quickly.

I just did some more research. Gonna go out and buy those three meds tomorrow.

One other thing I read is that some people Put Neosporin directly on the wound. Have you ever heard of this? Does it work and is it safe?

Usually Neosporin or other similar wound products are used for cuts, bites, etc. and not for infection sores.

If I'm not mistaken I believe that furan 2, triple sulfa, and methelyne blue combined are essentially the same thing as nfg and can often be purchased locally in an emergency. Please correct me if this isn't right

Word of caution here though, it WILL (the MB especially) wipe out your bio-filter. So have some bio-Spira and if there is no copper - Prime, handy.

I’d also do a big water change to remove most of the rally before you start the furan-2/sulfaplex/MB combo. Humble has mentioned that Acriflavine doesn’t hold up well when used continuously in QT (which is why we generally prefer to suggest a bath in a separate container instead)
