I finally convinced the wife to let me upgrade my 55 salt water tank to a 125 gallon tank. So I was wondering would I be able to use an overflow box (im currently looking at is pf-1000 overflow hob box from bulk reef supply) going to a 30-40gallon cube refugium (I will be splitting a portion of the refugium for the protein skimmer and heater) then filtered from a canister (Fluval fx6) and having the output back into the 125.
Would this work? I do not wish to drill any holes into the tank it’s why I’m going with the hob overflow. The reason why I’m not going with the tradition sump is that I’m limited in space and I currently already have the fx6 for my 55 gallon tank (bought it from someone for 75$) would like to keep using it.

Sorry also if I didn’t link any product sorta very new to the site. I always go on here to read the post but never asked a question until now.
Thank again!!!

Welcome! I know nothing about canister filters, always used a sump lol but congrats on the upgrade!

I wish I could add a sump but with the amount of space I have I wouldn’t be able to. Thank you for the congrats and the welcome!

Why not? A sump would just be built under the tank in a stand, not taking up any extra room?

The stand I’m currently getting along with the 125 gallon I’m purchasing from a friend (he’s only selling it to me for 100$) it’s also the reason why my wife is ok with me upgrading bc i got it for cheap. the stand can’t fit anything but maybe a 30 gallon but no room for maintenance. The way I’m putting the 30 gallon cube or 40 gallon is on a custom stand I built that also holds a 40 gallon (lps only tank), I just didn’t want a random sump next to my displays. But wouldn’t mind a Refugium next to it
