Hello I am new to Carpentry and i am building a stand for a 150g saltwater aquarium. This stand has to hold over 1300 LBS. I used 2x4s and 2x6s for the top horizontal frames I am unsure if what i have done so far any comments or help appreciated

I am not an engineer, that said it looks good and similar to what I did for my tank. You appear to have some extra bracing that I didn't do but looks like the Rocket Engineer build that most people follow.

Thanks for the replies did alot today added bracing and replaced the front 2x4 with a 2x6. Should I worry if I fon put a center brace on the front? I would not be able to get my sump in if I install a center brace

RocketEngineer has all of the load requirements on a post at the other Reef Forum (although I haven't seen him on there in quite a while the post is still there.) Here is the link: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1169964

If I remember correctly, 4 feet is fine with a 2x6, at 6 feet you need at 2x8, and at 8 feet a 2x10 to run without a center brace.

Don't forget to add 3/4 " plywood top for your tank to rest on. Helps absorb irregularities in the frame minimizing any stress to tank.

I recently went to pick up my 120 as the guy was draining the water out and the whole stand was made from 2x2s. It about feel over as we took the tank off to carry it out had to be held up by a miracle. He was like you not gonna tank this stand. Needless to say it stayed with him. I built a knew one not quit as beefy as yours but after seeing what it was on I feel pretty confident I'd say you would deff be fine

Thanks for all the replies guys. I will definatelty add plywood to sides top sides and bottom. I also plan on getting the self leveling mat from BRS. I used them on my last build for the sump and tank worked great
