I'm setting up a 300 Deep Dimension tank (72"×36") and need some ideas for lighting it. I currently have an ATI 8×54w light and wouldn't mind keeping it and adding some LED supplementation around the whole thing. Would something like that work good or should I just invest in another full light? If the LEDs would work what should I go with? Thanks for the help.

The 54watt is a little short for the 6 foot tank. You should have gone with the 80 watt bulbs. But in any case if it was me, I would replace all the lights with dimmable LEDs.

I know it's too short, I had the light on my 120 and was trying to figure out a way to use it along with some suplementation from LEDs or something. May not be the best option and I may just end up buying a whole new light but figured I'd see if anyone had any good ideas.

You could keep most of your photosynthetic corals under your t5 with lower light corals towards the edges. Add some stunners for sparkle..

Do you plan to run a canopy?

What about retro-fitting some more T5's on the ends where the fixture falls short?

Yes, I'm going to run a canopy. A T5 retro would work, and maybe some LEDs too to add a lityle shimmer.

Before you retro your ATI - they have really good resale, try to sell it and use the money for all LEDs.
