Hey R2R,

Iam currently in the making of a 65g mixed Reef tank. Its a updated red sea max 250 AIO Tank with a sump in thr back. For lighting i have a Maxspect RSX 200 w LED.

I am looking for fish/coral/inverbrate suggestions for creating a mixed reef environment.

Currently stocking is as follows:

50lbs of liferock

A mixed color zoa colony
A Bta

5 scarlet reef hermits
2 cerith snails
1 turbo snail
1 fencing conch
3 trochus snails
1 blue tuxedo urchin
3 peppermint shrimp(wurdemanni)

1 pair of Platinum percula clownfish

For further stocking my only must have is a starry blennie which ill propanly get next.

I like most gobies and blennys for their super special behaviour and looks. Still i want some active fish for the tank aswell. Also i have no lid and dont plan on getting one. I would consider these jumpguards at the edges but i dont know if those are any good.

Another target for the future is a mandarin. I plan on getting a mini fuge in my sump in the back.

Id love any recommendations for intresting fish with great personality.

Thanks in advance!

For a top is it possible to install a canopy. I understand that this is rimles. I’ve had clowns jump out of the tank. I do believe my cat scared them.
Chalk bass is a great fish with nice personality. An angel fish. Rusty, coral or potters great color and personality.

For coral gsp make sure you can maroon it to an island, finger leather, toadstool, blasto, acan, frogspawn hammer. And the list goes on.

Fish:
I’m a huge fan of cardinals. Would love a breeding pair. One of my must have for my 225.
Shrimp goby pair
I like the anemone for your clowns
Dwarf angel - flame angel nice color and movement.
Blue spotted jawfish - do some research can be hard to keep. Or a yellow head jawfish
I’m also looking to pick up a golden dwarf moray eel
Flame hawk
Dartfish
Royal gramma

Corals. I would do a zoa garden, Acan garden, ricordea, frog spawn, toadstool, I like Pom Pom xenias, candy cane, Duncan

A yellow wrasse would be nice and a dwarf angel fish would be nice to. I do love a Yasha gobie pair. And last but not least chalk basses are vary fun to keep.
As for corals, anything would be good some acans, zoanthids, and mushrooms are a good start. As long as you keep your parameters stable you can gradually add more tough corals like flower pots and “easy” SPS
How is the tank? Never saw the sump before and looking for another fish tank

Can also look at some smaller flasher and fairy wrasse on live aquaria considering a multicolor for my tank.

I really like the jawfish especially the yellow one. They do need a deep sandbed am i right? I dont have that much about 1-2 inches. Dont the angels pick on sps? Isnt that a nogo for mixed reefs. Also theres an moray eel that is reef safe?

Shrimp/goby and royal gramma are on my list aswell. Thinking about kardinals as well.

Its my first tank so i cant really rate it that much but i like it a lot. Its an older model that used to come with a lid with included t5s i got it as a bulk for about 70% off new. I tossed the whole lid and i use my own stand. I added the led, a jebao wavemaker, a Tunze ato and kept the returnpumps. I really like the size of it. Theres still “plenty” of space in the back for some additional tools.(i plan on getting a little fuge there) the main display is about 60g

No worries about angels picking at sps? I love GSP will get those for sure.

Any fish can jump, so be prepared for that possibility. But wrasses, dartfish, and jawfish are more likely to jump.

Dwarf angels can be hit and miss with corals.

Royal gramma, yellow assessor, watchman goby/ pistol shrimp, grammistes blenny are a few choices that may work.

My coral beauty is a model citizen never seen him nip my lps and softies don’t have sps.
