Help with a Aquamaxx HOB skimmer please

Hello

My name is Adam and I am relatively new to the aquarium set up. I have been cycling a JBJ 28 gallon intermediate (LED) and have about 20 lbs live sand and about 15 lbs live rock. I also have a JBJ inline UV sterilizer that I have not turned on yet (advised not to while cycling).

1) I have also purchased a aquamaxx HOB skimmer as I have read multiple reviews that state they are one of the best for a nano cube and are rated at 75 gallons. Well made and perform well. The problem I have is that when it is on (I have not turned it on yet, but have attached it) I cannot open my hood. Should I cut the hood, Take the hood off its hinges when I want to access inside, or remove skimmer when I want to access aquarium?

Opinions are GREATLY appreciated.

I'd set it up to remove the lid when accessing the tank, you really don't want to keep removing the skimmer when you need to do maintenance.
