The wife picked out a Pink with dark Blue polyps SPS frag today. The shop owner is at MACNA and the young man at the shop was not positive on the ID buy was thinking JF Darth Maul. I have it in my QT tank as of right now. Any help with a positive ID would be greatly appreciated!

The frag is about 2”x 4” appears healthy and encrusting well on the live rock that it’s on and has been in their frag tank for 3 weeks, did she do well for $40?
Thank you for the ID help I appreciate it!!!

As I guy I always said nothing pink for my tank, but I gotta say with my lights ramping down and how bright the color is I kinda like it!!! Lol
Any care tips you can give me would be appreciated. I’ve had several Acros ( key word had ) with zero success, a Red Montipora Digitata that is going awesome, and a JF Green Goddess. So in short I’m a SPS newby lol I have had lps and nems for 19 years just new to the SPS world.

Beautiful coral @Hitman and your wife did excellent! Very fast grower and a hardy coral at that. I ended up getting rid of a colony over 12"across. As far as care it grew anywhere in the tank but the bottom seemed to produce the best colors IME. It liked flow so moderate should do just fine. That montipora also showed color changes when the chemistry was off like alkalinity. If there's any questions you have that I can help dont hesitate my friend.

Thank you so much! This is such a awesome reefing community!!!

Deal!!!
Here are the perameters I have been keeping as my Hammers, Frogspawns, Torches, and trumpets have seemed to be the happiest at. My Nems and leathers don’t seem to care lol
Any changes you would recommend as I slowly move into the SPS world?
SA 1.025 Refractometer
Temp 78.0 Reefkeeper
CA 450 ppm Salifert
ALK 9 DKH Salifert
MG 1350 ppm Salifert
NO3 2 - 5 ppm Salifert
PO4 .03 ppm Hanna

I dose a total daily 24 ml of each ESV B-ionic CA & ALk 2 ml each every other hour with 1 hour separation with a doser
And 480 ml of kalk daily at 20 ml per hour

@DSC reef after a few days of adjusting my new doser to find a stable point I finally have had it 3 days in a row. Do you suggest any changes? I know the usage rate will change seeing I plan on adding a few more SPS’s in this weekend but a stable starting point is my goal. I think or shall I say hope I can figure it out from there lol
This mornings perimeters are as follows.
SA 1.025 Refractometer
Temp 77.7 Reefkeeper
CA 440 ppm Salifert
ALK 9.6 DKH Salifert
MG 1350 ppm Salifert
NO3 2-5 ppm Salifert
PO4 0.03 ppm Hanna

Dosing 12 ml each of ESV B-ionic 2 part 1ml each every other hour 1 hour separation of each.
Dosing 240 ml Kalk ( 1 gallon ro/di mixed with 2 tbl spoons of BRS Kalk powder ) 10 ml on every hour. Just started using the new BRS Kalk on Saturday when I installed the new doser. Dosed at the half hour mark to separate from CA & ALK dosing.
Any thoughts or changes you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for everyone’s help.

Looks like a mystic sunset montipora. I had one and it is a fast grower. Was my favorite coral until I dosed Waste Away. Dead within a day.

Beautiful coral.

Wow did you over dose or did something else happen to it?

Nope. I did a half dose for a week maybe 2. Then went to the full dose (1 dose following water change).

It is what it is. My own stupidity.

Mystic sunset montipora
I love mine but I am not sure they love me I have hard time with them. This and FF Digi’s being the exception. They seem to do better in low light I have mine about the same height in my tank as my JF jack o lantern and it seems happy. Old Jack needs pretty low light or it will start to bleach and it seems like this is the same. Enjoy, if you look at it under a good magnifying glass or if you have some high magnification soldering glasses they look so cool. Half blue half brown polyps against the pink really does look like a star filled sunset. The name really fits

Sorry to hear that.
