help with Acans please

I've been trying to get an Acan garden going in my tank for a few months now, with the same results never opening once i put them in my tank everything else is thriving. I went to a lfs yesterday and he said do you have a flame angel, I said yes but he doesn't bother my corals.
Well I bought a beautiful 1/2 purple 1/2 green 3 inch diameter colony well as soon as I placed it in my reef the little B#$@! thought I rang the dinner bell , traded the acan with a friend for some frags nor wanting to kill it

I had read this and have been thinking about it every since,,, I have lots of acans in my tank,, have them mounted to my rock like you would mount sps corals in your tank,,, I am no expert,, I had/have the same problems that you are having,,, I am learning as I go with these corals,,, my tank parameters are pretty much the same as yours,,, calcium is in the 500 range,,, its not that I dose calcium,, its staying at that number from just water changes,,,

I feed my corals Fauna Marin LPS pellets once or twice a week,,, they love the stuff,,, so its not a food thing,,, I think its just a light thing ,,, not enough of it,,, the acans I have no trouble with are the ones higher up on my rock scape that are getting the most light,,, I have yet to bring any of my problem acans back to their full glory once they started to go down hill,,, they haven't died,,, but they aren't making a come back either,,,

I have been raising my LED light percentages up a few points at a time,,, am hoping the problem acans will make a move to getting back to where they are happy again,,, at the very least,,, I can watch the other acans and see if the higher light will stop any of the other acans from going down this road,,,

Pics will help a lot. If you don't have reef roids, buy some. The smallest will last you forever!
It's saved quite a few dying acans for me.
Also, they do like a bit more nutrients in the water. I spot feed mysis twice a week.
I also run AI prime at 55% and they like midway (about 10 inch from light not water surface) around 100-120 par.

Very timely thread...just added a pair of acans in my second tank. My LFS recommends reef rods but I had some reef frenzy handy, so I was going to use it twice a week. Is RR that much better?

PS lighting is a kessil 360w.

I'm not familiar with the light. Is it the reef frenzy nano pack?
I like reef roids because it feeds multitudes of things not just what you're spot feeding. But I've fed frenzy before as well. Just make sure it's small enough for them to eat. I usually estimate a mysis shrimp per grown head. Smaller heads just get reef roids.
When I bleached the crap out of my first ones, they would only take reef roids not anything meaty.

I started feeding reef roids last week. I fed on Wednesday and Sunday. The acans all reacted good and have stopped shrinking up. I spot fed all the corals(duncans, acans, SPS, etc) the reef roids. They all loved it and reacted very well to the RR. My plan is to feed them twice a week for a month just to get them fattened up and healthy. then cut back to once a week.

That's awesome! Congrats

Mine was definitely something (either Bicolor Angel or Peppermint Shrimp) eating them. As you can see pretty good polyp extensions now and yes I have been feeding them some as well.
