I am new to this site and I am desperately looking for some help. I have some kind of algae that I can not get rid of. At first I thought water changes would help but after two months of 25% water changes I found out that my water was to clean and that I should try and raise my phosphates and nitrates. I still can not get my phosphates up but have raised nitrates to 4. No luck with algae so I was instructed to black out tank for 48 hours and then treat with peroxide. No luck, it is slowly coming back. The algae grows in very long single strands across my crushed coral bed. If I leave it go it spreads quickly. Thanks to anyone who offers help.

Could you post any pictures?

I hope you can see in this pic.

It's possible its dinos if your phosphates are zerod. There are a lot of threads about nuisance algae and dinos as well that may be more helpful

If those are dinos, try neophos from brightwell aquatics. I was in a similar scenario where I had dinos most likely from 0 phosphate and I couldn't raise it. I dosed this and maintained it (as well as dosed some different bacteria) and it went away

Thanks, I am going to give that a try. I just ordered a bottle. I will update results.

Hello. I got my NeoPhos and have dosed my tank for 2days. I went a little easy just because of being afraid of messing up. How many days did you dose before getting a positive reading.

I can't remember that exactly.. I would just dose it slowly till you get some sort of detectable level. I tried to get mine to 0.1 and then dosed some competitive bacteria (waste away, eco balance) and then dosed it back up to 0.07 or something like that.

Hello. I have been dosing my tank for a week now and still no reading. I struggle at times reading and comprehending directions and I do not think they are very clear. I have been putting 4 ml of neophobia daily in a 90 gallon tank 30 gallon sump. I was told to over feed as well which I have been doing. Now I am wondering if my test kit is bad. It’s only a couple months old.

Neophos not neophobia. Sorry.
